The Man from Hong Kong starring George Lazenby on DVD

Last month, Studio S Entertainment in Sweden released a digitally restored DVD edition of The Man from Hong Kong (1975) – a Quentin Tarantino favourite – starring George Lazenby, one of three films (Stoner and A Queen’s Ransom being the other two) that he made for the Golden Harvest Company who also produced the first two Bruce Lee movies. The Man from Hong Kong film was originally banned from being screened at cinemas in Sweden, due to the extreme action scenes, so it's nice to note it's finally available over here.

The Man from Hong Kong is without a doubt one of the coolest action movies of the 1970s. Right from the opening fight, on top of Ayers Rock (!), It sets the standard for a breathtaking action raffle packed with car chases, crazy stunts and rock-hard karate fighters. Around the world, the cinema audience cheered like an uprooted football heel, but in Sweden the censors immediately showed the red card. Expulsion!

George Lazenby had a few years before shocked the film world by jumping off the 007 circus already after his first agent film, On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969). Here he plays Australia's drug lord Mr Big, who goes into clinch with the karate-kicking Hong Kong cop Fang, played by Jimmy Wang Yu.

The totally insane stunt scenes where coordinated by Grant Page who became world famous for Mad Max, Raymond Chow, who put all Bruce Lee's films together, is the producer, and Tarantino favorite Brian Trenchard-Smith is responsible for the screenplay and direction. And of course, the film is now shown in uncut condition!
