The Top oh-oh-seven James Bond villains

FSWL ranks our favourites amongst the villains/henchmen featured in the James Bond film series.

Five decades and over twenty Bond films. Phenomenal villains have come and gone throughout the series but who really stands out? I have listed my top seven.

7. Nick Nack in The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)
Nick Nack is the inspiration for Mini-Me in the Austin Powers films and there is never a dull moment when he is on screen. The role was played by the French actor Herve Villechaize (1943-1993) who later played the role of Tattoo in Fantasy Island. One associates him with mini-guns, peanuts, knapsacks and wine bottles.

6. Francisco Scaramanga in TMWTGG
His effortless charm, million contracts, golden weapon and third nipple is all memorable parts of the film. Christopher Lee was perfect for the role of Scaramanga, he is just like Ian Fleming's original character. Scaramanga has also proven to be a popular character in the 007 games.

5. Mr. Big / Kananga
American actor Yaphet Kotto played politician Dr. Kananga and big gangster Mr. Big in the 1973 film Live and Let Die. Dr. Kananga was a calm prime minister on the island of San Monique used to cultivate drugs smuggled into America. When he put on his rubber mask, he became the ruthless gangster Mr. Big that controlled most of Harlem.

4. Oddjob
I cannot forget Oddjob, Auric Goldfinger's personal bodyguard in Goldfinger (1964) from 1964. The role was played by Harold Sakata (1920-1982). Sakata was the perfect choice to play the quiet man and gave an aura of strength and danger to the role. One mostly remembers Oddjob from the scene where he throws a bowler hat made of steel and chop the head of a statue. He later repeated the same trick when he killed off Bond girl Tilly Masterson.

3. Goldfinger
"No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die". Goldfinger was not only one of the best Bond films but also had one of the best casts in the series. German actor Gert Fröbe (1913-1988) played the role of Auric Goldfinger, and he was a perfect choice. Fröbe spoke no English which meant that there was a little confusion on the set, but otherwise he fitted perfectly with the rest of the team.

2. Jaws
Jaws is a classic villain and without doubt the most famous of the Bond villains. He was introduced in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) in the form of the 7 feet 2 inch tall actor Richard Kiel (1939-2014) who gave the film a unique charm. He became so popular that the producers brought him back for the next movie, Moonraker (1979) (1979). In the second film, he had a cheesy romance and remains a favourite among the fans. Jaws is also a playable character in many of the computer games with Bond theme.

1. Ernst Stavro Blofeld
This is the leader of SPECTRE, a villain who was much featured in the books, something that is really worth mentioning. He was a central part of the Blofeld trilogy consisting of the novels Thunderball (1961), On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1963) and You Only Live Twice (1964).
