JOE ROBINSON
Peter Franks in DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER 1971
 
When I met Mr Robinson he became one of favourites among all the persons involved in a Bond film I have met.
It was a real pleasure seeing him in Birmingham and a very friendly chap who shared many of his Bond moments to me which I was very grateful and happy for.
Besides being an actor he is also a judo instructor, holds 8th Dan in judo and 5th Dan in Karate Wado ryu style (for those interested he helped Bond girl, Honor Blackman, with her book about self defence in the 60s) and has helped a certain Sir Sean Connery with fight scenes in some movies. He tried to wrestle me which turned out to be not so difficult for him although I promised to be more trained and in form when we see each other next time.
He also told me about an unexpected meeting with golf professional, Colin Montgomerie, at an airport some years ago. They did not know each other before but Mr Montgomerie, who himself never travels without bringing a few Bond epics with him, recognized Joe and asked him if he was "Peter Franks" in DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER...
Mr Robinson also turned out to be a kind of sports freak, like myself, which never made our conversation boring although he may have considered me a little to fanatic about Bond!
I was lucky to meet Joe again at Pinewood Studios in June 2005, friendly as the previous time and he seemed to enjoy himself very much when he gave me and the audience some anecdotes from the filming of DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER.
A third time to see Joe came when we both attended the collector show Autographica in October 2005.
Another time to see Joe came when we both attended the Starcon convention in September 2006.
