To coincide with the worldwide publication of a new James Bond novel on May 28th - DEVIL MAY CARE - in celebration of Ian Fleming’s birth 100 years ago – FROM SWEDEN WITH LOVE hosted another competition between April 17th and May 31st 2008. This was our most successful competition so far from the number of entries received.
The competition gave participants the chance to win one of five hardcover copies of the Swedish edition of the novel - I DJÄVULENS TJÄNST - as it is titled in Sweden. Originally written by famous British author Sebastian Faulks, it was translated into Swedish by Jan Malmsjö.
To win a copy of the book the participants had to answer the following three questions correctly:
1. WHICH YEAR WAS IAN FLEMING’S FIRST BOND NOVEL CASINO ROYALE PUBLISHED IN ENGLAND AND SWEDEN RESPECTIVELY?
Correct answer:
THE NOVEL CASINO ROYALE WAS FIRST PUBLISHED IN ENGLAND ON APRIL 13TH 1953 BY JONATHAN CAPE. IN SWEDEN IT WAS FIRST PUBLISHED ON FEBRUARY 11TH 1955 BY ALBERT BONNIER.
2. WHEN AND WHERE WAS AUTHOR IAN FLEMING BORN?
Correct answer:
IAN LANCASTER FLEMING WAS BORN ON MAY 28TH, 1908 IN MAYFAIR, LONDON TO VALENTINE FLEMING, MP (Member of Parliament) AND HIS WIFE EVELYN STE CROIX FLEMING.
3. WHAT WAS THE NAME OF IAN FLEMING’S ONLY CHILD AND WHICH YEAR WAS IT BORN?
Correct answer:
IAN FLEMING’S ONLY CHILD WAS NAMED CASPAR ROBERT AND WAS BORN IN AUGUST 12th, 1952 (Unfortunately Caspar died much too early on October 2nd, 1975 at an age
of 23).
